I don't think the AI gets any penalty for backstabbing you either. This way is blocked sire: To the pit of despair with you.į*cking backstabbing and no consequences: Better than Original Rome's 5 turns of alliance before you get attacked but still annoying and pointless.
That's why I usually opt to play on Medium for campaign to have a more balanced experience rather than trying to fend off hordes of peasants the AI suicides into me. Zerg Rush AI: Sometimes when I play on Hard or Above the AI will get cheasy and cheaty and zerg rush me with ♥♥♥♥ units. I'll often have so many generals that I don't know what to do with that I'll literally just make an army of useless generals and send them on a suicide mission. This has a lot to do with the 4 turns per year ♥♥♥♥(whoever's genius idea that was needs to be hanged, drawn, burned, quartered, and tossed into the pit of despair).
